How coaching with me works
One-to-one, by video, and built around what's actually in front of you. Here's the shape of an engagement, who pays, and what I will and won't do.
What a session is like
We start with what's live for you this week, which might be a decision you're avoiding or a conversation that went sideways. We slow down enough to look at it properly.
I pay attention to what's happening in the room as well as the story. If your jaw tightens when you mention your co-founder, I'll say so, because that's usually where the useful work is.
Most sessions end with an experiment, meaning something small and concrete to try before we talk again. It's a way to find out what happens when you do the thing differently.
The basics
- 60 minutes, video, usually every two weeks
- Six-month engagements for executives, with a kickoff and a close-out
- Month-to-month retainers for founders and CEOs who want ongoing access
- Light contact between sessions by email when something comes up
- Virtual, across Canada and the United States
Fees depend on the structure and who's paying. I'll walk you through them on the intro call, and you'll have everything in writing before you decide.
For you, or for a leader on your team
You're paying for yourself
This is for founders, executives, and senior leaders who want the work for their own reasons. What we talk about stays between us. The engagement is six months, or month to month for founders who want an ongoing thinking partner.
Your company is sponsoring it
This is for CEOs, boards, and HR leaders investing in a specific person. Sponsored engagements add a short round of stakeholder interviews, three-way meetings with the sponsor at the start, middle, and end, and a brief written summary of themes and progress.
The sponsor sees themes and progress and never sees session content. That boundary is written into the agreement before we start.
What coaching is
Coaching is a working partnership about how you lead, decide, and run under pressure. It assumes you're capable and that the answers are mostly yours. My job is to help you see more of what's going on, in you and around you, so you can act on it.
I trained at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, in an ICF-accredited coaching program, and I'm on the path to the ICF credential. In plain terms, we work with what's happening in the room as it happens. If your pace changes when a topic comes up, that's information, and I'll point to it. Most of the useful work comes from noticing those signals together, then deciding what to do with them.
What coaching is not
Coaching isn't psychotherapy, and I don't provide psychotherapy to coaching clients. We don't work on mental-health concerns or anything that belongs with a health professional.
If something like that comes up, and it sometimes does, I'll say so plainly and help you find the right support. I keep a short list of people and services I trust for that. I don't coach anyone who is or has been a psychotherapy client of mine or of my psychotherapy practice.
I'm a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario, and that background shapes how I listen. The work here is still coaching.
A 30-minute conversation, free
We talk about what's going on and I tell you whether I think coaching will help. Then you decide. There's nothing to prepare.
